A Lecture - Where Minds Explore Together (Curated by Dr. Rufus, Course Teacher)

ree

A lecture is a formal talk on a serious subject given to a group of people, especially students. Many things go into the delivery and success of a good lecture. A few include the quality of content, clarity of thought and speech, voice modulation, body language, attitude, and most importantly, keeping the attention and interest of the audience. Fortunate as I am, I had the opportunity to attend a few such lectures by inspiring professors during my college days.

I'm writing this blog to express my thoughts on a similar lecture I had attended last Wednesday (June 2, 2025) in our II MA English class. What makes it so special is that it was not by a professor, like all the rest, but by my classmate, who would undoubtedly make a wonderful professor in the future, if her lecture has anything to say about it.

Catherin Sabu's special lecture on 'Critical Theory' was enlightening and intriguing. From the beginning itself, Catherin grabbed our attention with an analogy. She had us imagine an enclosed room with foggy windows where you only have a blurred vision of the things around you. You are then offered a spectacle which help you observe the room more clearly. You also discover that the fog was an outside agent covering the window, after clearing which, you were able to discover a world outside your limited space. The glasses that helped you see the world more accurately is what theory basically is.

The analogy not only captured the audience's interest, but also helped them understand the basic function of a theory in a simple and effective manner. In addition, clear pronunciation of words and the overall pacing of the lecture allowed readers to follow the information as it was delivered.

Overall, the lecture was informative in content and inspiring in its delivery, and I look forward to more lectures from our student community of aspiring professors. All the best to every one of you!
