No road trip requires the traveller to be constantly on the road. Occasionally stopping for fuel, rest, and repair is a must. It is also okay to pull over to check the map and reroute instead of getting lost. Similar is the case with life.
Early twenties is a defining period in life. It is beautiful and chaotic; when you explore yourself and make decisions for your future self...scary but true. It can be confusing to chose one option over many others based on assumptions about your strengths and drawbacks. I remember reading somewhere about how early twenties require tremendous amounts of self-belief and confidence to take on things based on the faith that you can do it. More often you don't have any prior experience to back you up; only your trust in yourself.
In this period of trying to prove yourself, taking breaks come with unwanted guilt. Even if you feel lost, you keep running because stillness makes you anxious. When the mind is thus working 24/7, we often fail to acknowledge or actively ignore signs of physical illness. We assume that stopping for health issues is for the old and not the young. Young adults must always keep busy and make the most of their youthful vigour. This goes on until your bad health infiltrates your productivity.
Now that is how I ended up taking an extended leave from college and staying home to treat my allergy, which I had let grow over the months. It would never have been possible if I hadn't submitted my assignments before deadline and religiously kept up attendance. Not to mention the care and consideration I received from family, friends and teachers who were able to easily prioritize my health over everything else when I myself hesitated with the decision. And I sincerely believe that it is not because they appreciate my absence. I am fun to be around, no doubt....
