Silhouettes of Solitude - The Unseen Ink of Emotions by Nitish Kumar R K

Poetry Collection

Q) What inspired you to write this book? Was it a person, an idea, or a specific moment in your life or a little bit of everything.

A: I would like to mention Dr. Samuel Rufus, my professor, only he inspired me and ignited the spark to write a book and later on I loved poetry, so I published the poetry book with 30 poems

Q) So what are the challenges you faced in the making of the book?

A: I faced challenges in regard to proof-reading, but then I got a reliable proof-reader. I started writing poetry after deciding to publish a book. It’s a new journey, so it’s not easy to write poetry, I felt it personally. Before and all i thought that poetry was easy, it’s inspirational, but later on we have to think, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite and then get into a structure. So, these are the difficulties I faced relating to the structure and form

Q) Do you have plans to write any new books in the future?

A: After completing my poetry book, I thought of writing a novel. I have a structure, a plot, but I have to present it and publish it. I will later reveal what it’s about. The plot revolves around the lives of two gangsters who reform in the future, from violence to family. Yeah, it’s in the process.

Q) What inspired you to write this book? Was it a person, an idea, or a specific moment in your life or a little bit of everything.

A: I didn’t have any proper inspiration to write this book, especially. Just because Rufus Sir had asked each person to identify their talent, I was thinking about my talent. In my UG days I had attended a workshop in our college where they asked us to write any short-story or an essay or a poem, so I chose to write a poem. From the many themes they gave, I chose deforestation, connecting to nature. So, I wrote a poem and it turned into a nice one. Actually I really liked it. And my friend Dhanush had also said, “Hey you are a great poet” *laughs and he also said, “just try to write more poems”, like that he inspired me to write more. And he said why don’t you figure out your problems into your poems or turn those emotions into your poems, like that he said. I thought it was a nice idea, and I started writing poems and I challenged Rufus sir that I’ll complete 50 poems in around 20 or 30 days .…I don't know. I am not sure about the days, but I wrote 50 poems and still I keep on writing whenever I feel like writing.

Q) So what are the challenges you faced in the making of the book?

A: The first thing is a kind of writer’s block. Sometimes I used to pour out emotions and I will be writing so many poems a day, because I challenged Rufus sir that within 20 to 30 days I will complete the book. So, I was thinking what to write and some days I don’t have any ideas or thoughts to write. Simply, I can't force myself to write something rubbish. It should be a connecting poem to everyone. So, I didn’t force myself to write every single day but whenever I felt like writing I just wrote whatever I thought. So in a day I wrote seven or eight poems and on some days I didn't write even a single poem.

Another challenge was the word choice. It really challenged me a lot. I thought my poems should connect to every reader, not only the adults. Even if a kid reads my poem, it should connect to that person. So I was very careful while choosing words.

Q) Do you have plans to write any new books in the future?

A: I have plans to write a book. Not poetry again, I’ll be writing poetry whenever I feel like writing. I have an idea to write a short-story or a novel, something like that. But I have an idea. I don’t know when I will write and when I will be publishing it. But I’ll be writing that surely.
